Walkthrough

The Wise Old Man recruits you to hunt General Velgar. Build a shelter, follow the trail of the missing adventurer Cathan, forge a challenge horn and bring the dragon down.

   Report to the Wise Old Man

   Talk to the Wise Old Man in Bramblemead Village to begin. Before any dragon hunting he wants a base: build a foundation, three walls and a ceiling, place a bed roll inside and claim it. The listed materials are 23 ash logs and 1 coarse animal fur.

   Track Cathan with antlers

   Cathan has gone missing, so the Wise Old Man needs antlers to cast a locator spell. Hunt deer in the valley and bring him the antlers — they run, so a ranged or magic weapon is the practical choice.

   Search the Keep of Blue Flames

   The spell points to a castle in the valley. Fight through the many goblins and read Cathan's Journal at the top beside a loot chest; it names a blue-flame door in the Whispering Swamp. Velgar then descends on the keep, spraying poison by the gate — dodge the puddles or wait out the attack.

   Enter the blue-flame door

   Head to the Whispering Swamp and pass through the blue-flame door into the Vertentis Kara dragonkin vault. Speak to Spitfoot at the far end to learn about Cathan's betrayal and his plan to reach Ghornfell, then report back to the Wise Old Man.

   Gather horn materials

   Follow Cathan's trail into Ghornfell's Fractured Plains and visit Velgar's Rise, where Cathan's ghost gives you the challenge horn recipe. In Stormtouched Highlands, mine a dragon skull's tooth with an iron pickaxe; in Bloodblight Swamp, harvest the bloodwood tree in the southern castle with an iron logging axe. Combine the tooth, the sap and 5 bronze bars into the horn.

   Challenge Velgar

   Enter Velgar's Rise with your best gear, food and antipoison potions, then place the horn on the dragonkin altar at the top. Velgar works his way clockwise around the triangular arena each time he loses a quarter of his health, so dodge the poison spray, puddle bombs and leg stomps between his delayed attacks.

   Claim the head

   Take Velgar's head outside the tower and hand it to the Wise Old Man, who now stands where Cathan's ghost was, to complete the quest.
