Walkthrough

The Wise Old Man sets you a fishing challenge once you have built a net: catch him a raw sardine from the Brynmoor waters to prove you can handle a rod.

1. 1

   Craft a coarse net

   Make a coarse net at the crafting table using 2 coarse thread. Creating it triggers the quest and points you to the Wise Old Man.

   Speak to the Wise Old Man

   Talk to him in Bramblemead Valley and choose option 2. He asks you to catch a raw sardine, and explains you will need a fishing rod and bait to do it.

   Trawl for shrimp

   Stand inside a nearby net fishing spot while wielding your net to capture raw shrimp. Keep net fishing until you reach level 3, which unlocks the ability to make fishing rods.

   Make an ash rod and bait

   At the crafting table, combine 1 ash log with 1 coarse thread to form an ash rod. Your raw shrimp can be turned into shrimp bait, with each shrimp giving 1 bait.

   Catch a sardine

   Equip both the rod and the bait and fish at a rod fishing spot. Hold the cast button (LMB by default) and release to land in the spot, then use strafe left/right (A and D) to tire the fish out. When the bar empties you land either a sardine or a trout.

   Return to the Wise Old Man

   Take the raw sardine back to him to finish the quest. He rewards you, then cooks it the way his grandfather used to.
