Dragonwilds Ranged Guide: Weapons, Ammo & Perks
Ranged picked up the most 1.0.1 changes: three subclass special attacks, two Ammo Recovery perks, Low Blow and a Rune ammo buff. This guide turns those changes into a setup you can actually take into the Scorned Wilderness.

What Changed in 1.0.1
- Ammo Recovery and Greater Ammo Recovery add a chance to recover arrows from slain enemies. This is the sustain perk for bow builds.
- Low Blow applies Hamstrung when a ranged attack hits an enemy in the legs, slowing it briefly. Tiny and Colossal enemies are immune.
- Subclass specials: Shortbows get Rapid Fire, longbows get Power Shot and crossbows get Heavy Bolt.
- Rune ammo: Rune arrows and bolts now deal more damage than Adamant, 4.9× versus 4.2×.
Pick a Subclass
Shortbow — Rapid Fire
Hop back and fire three arrows quickly. You can switch targets between shots, which makes it the best subclass for hatchlings and add packs.
Longbow — Power Shot
Take a knee, draw a full-strength arrow and release a heavy long-range shot. Longbows carry the highest listed base damage, so they are the single-target pick.
Crossbow — Heavy Bolt
Charge a bolt and fire; it applies Enchanted effects on hit. Crossbows trade some raw output for bolt procs and utility.
Ammo: What to Carry
Rune ammo is the default once you can make it. Adamant is the step below, and the effect arrows are a deliberate trade: they lose some base damage for bleed, poison or burn.
| Ammo | Power | Base damage | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rune Arrow | 8 | 44–118 | Default bow ammo |
| Rune Bolt | 8 | 88 | Default crossbow ammo |
| Enchanted Rune Bolt | 8 | 88 | Crossbow effects |
| Adamant Arrow | 7 | 42–101 | Step below Rune |
| Rune Barbed Arrow | 8 | 42–101 | Bleed |
| Poisoned Rune Arrow | 8 | 42–101 | Poison |
| Rune Fire Arrow | 8 | 42–101 | Burn |
Base damage is the item data, not a DPS calculation. Arrow and bolt effects are separate from the damage roll.
Perk Priority
- Ammo Recovery / Greater Ammo Recovery — take this first on bow builds. It cuts the cost of long farm sessions.
- Trick Shot at level 8 — release the follow-up at the right time for extra damage. Crossbow Trick Shot at 30 adds an instant reload.
- Low Blow — a kiting tool. Hit the legs to apply Hamstrung; skip it against Tiny and Colossal enemies.
- Enchanted Crossbow Bolts at 35 and Lucky Bolts at 60 — the crossbow proc line.
- Fire Starter at 45 — unlocks Fire Oil and Fire Arrows for burn builds.
- Venomous Trapper at 40 — turns Snare into a poison cloud for area control.

Gear Progression by Power
- Power 1–3: Ash and Oak shortbows, Oak longbow, Bronze Crossbow, Wooden/Stone/Fang and Bronze arrows. Crystal Bow is a Power 3 shortbow with Shattershot.
- Power 4–5: Willow and Blightwood bows, Iron/Blurite crossbows, the Dorgeshuun Crossbow at Power 5 with 97 base damage, and Green Dragonhide or Ranger armour.
- Power 6–7: Maple/Yew bows, Mithril/Adamant/Shadow crossbows, the Bow of Elidinis at Power 7, Blue/Red Dragonhide and Kalphite Carapace.
- Power 8–9: Magic Longbow (118 base damage), Magic Shortbow, Rune Crossbow, Black Dragonhide, and the Dragon Crossbow at Power 9.
Three Practical Setups
Longbow single-target
Magic Longbow or Yew Longbow, Rune arrows, Trick Shot, Ammo Recovery and Low Blow. Keep Spectral Arrows active at level 25. Use Power Shot for the opening hit or a safe burst window. This is the simplest boss setup.
Crossbow utility
Rune Crossbow or Dragon Crossbow, Enchanted Rune Bolts, Enchanted Crossbow Bolts, Lucky Bolts and Crossbow Trick Shot. Heavy Bolt applies the Enchanted effect on hit. This is the pick when you want bolt procs rather than raw arrow damage.
Shortbow add-clear
Magic Shortbow or Yew Shortbow, Rune arrows, Trick Shot, Ammo Recovery and Low Blow. Rapid Fire lets you spread three arrows across a pack or finish a hatchling without stopping. Use it before the boss phase starts.
Taking Ranged to Kuldra
Ranged works in the Scorned Wilderness raid. Bring Rune arrows, a longbow or crossbow at your best power level, Spectral Arrows and Ammo Recovery so the ammo lasts through the phases. In phase four, the tunnel safe spot lets ranged and magic users attack Kuldra's Heart while avoiding most poison explosions. Read the full Kuldra guide for the phase route.

Dragonwilds Ranged — common questions
Weapons, ammo, perks and the Kuldra setup.
The Dragon Crossbow is the only Power 9 ranged weapon in the current data. The Magic Longbow has the highest listed base damage at 118, while the Magic Shortbow and Rune Crossbow sit at Power 8. Pick by subclass and power level rather than one universal winner.
